Philosophy

It is well documented by research that playing musical instruments benefits a child's brain development as well as boosting school performance. Classical music also stimulates children's imagination and creativity tremendously. I focus not only on teaching students how to play their instruments, but also the understanding and appreciation of the art form. In addition, I put emphasis on helping them develop qualities like perseverance, self-discipline, and attentiveness to details. These will help them succeed in life regardless of career path. Finally, I want to be a friend and mentor to all my students, and to help every one of them achieve their full potential.

Background

I studied string pedagogy with Andrew Luchansky at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the Suzuki Method with Cathryn Lee, a world-renowned teacher trainer and the artistic consultant for the Northern California Suzuki Institute. I’ve also taken pedagogy courses from Northwestern University.

MUSICAL ACTIVITIES

Examples of activities that I prepare my students for are yearly recitals, Certificate of Merit level testing, and honor orchestra auditions. My students have been members of Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, Orange County Youth Orchestra, Community Youth Orchestra of Orange County, as well as Irvine district and state Honor Orchestras.
